What stays on the phone
Your position, your tracks, your plots, your photos and your notes are stored on the phone and nowhere else. They leave it only when you send them yourself: a PDF, a picture, an exported file, a backup.
What uses the network
- Map tiles: the map, satellite and hybrid views (Esri, OpenStreetMap as a fallback) and the terrain map (OpenTopoMap). The date of a satellite photo is asked for an area rounded to about a kilometre, never your exact position.
- Terrain: elevation tiles (AWS Terrain Tiles), only when you tap it.
- Address search: the text you type, sent to Nominatim (OpenStreetMap); coordinates you type are read on the phone.
- Ads: Google's ads, consent form and the ad-free purchase.
- Suggest an improvement: the message you write, only when you send it.
Permissions
- Location: to measure by GPS, kept going with the screen off.
- Notifications: the measurement in progress and the reminder to stop.
- Health Connect: optional and off by default; writes a walk, never reads.
