Distance Measure Pro user guide
Measure a distance or the area of a piece of land, on the map or on foot.
What the app does
It measures a distance or the area of a piece of land: a walk, a fence, a field, a garden. You see the result on a map, in the unit you choose. Your measurements stay on your phone and can be shared as an image, a PDF or a file.
Five measurements, three ways
The panel at the bottom of the map shows the current measurement. Tap Change to pick another: Drawn distance, Drawn area, Distance on foot, Area on foot or Corner by corner.
- Draw — tap the corners on the map or on the satellite photo. No need to go there; precision depends on the image, often a few metres.
- Walk — press Start and walk: the app adds up the distance. Walk all the way around a field to get its area. The ± tells you how good the signal was.
- Corner by corner — walk to each corner, stand still a few seconds and place it: the app averages your position. The most precise way on the ground.
The guide
- Drawing on the map — Points, corrections, and the tools behind the ⋮ button.
- Measuring on foot and corner by corner — The GPS measures while you walk, drive or stand at each corner.
- Reading the result: the ± and the quality — How far a figure can be trusted, and how the app gets it.
- Units: acres, bigha, guntha… — Lengths and areas in the units you use, down to the one on your deed.
- Terrain: elevation and slope — The relief under a measurement that has no elevation of its own.
- Saving, sharing and backups — Your measurements, organised, sent and kept.
- Without mobile signal, and your data — What works in a field with no network, and what never leaves your phone.
Finding your way around
The map takes the whole screen. At the top: the menu button (My measurements, All my measurements on a map, Overview, Unit converter, Settings, Help), the search bar, your measurements and the ⋮ button. On the right, within reach of your thumb: the map background, My location and, when drawing, the buttons that place a point.
The first time, a short tour shows each of these; Replay the tour of the measuring screen, in the app's Help, shows it again.
