Measuring on foot and corner by corner

The GPS measures while you walk, drive or stand at each corner.

Distance on foot and Area on foot

Press Start and move: the distance adds up with its margin of error. In Area on foot, walk all the way round: the area and perimeter grow as you go, and the loop closes with a vibration when you get back to the start. Pause and Stop are at the bottom, under your thumb.

  • Screen off: the measurement keeps going in your pocket; the notification shows the distance.
  • Auto-pause: Auto-pause when stopped suspends the timer when you stand still.
  • Markers: the flag button adds a marker at your position, with a name, an icon and a photo.
  • Lock: the full-screen map can be locked so nothing happens in your pocket; Hold to unlock.
  • Voice: Voice announcements speak the distance, time and pace at every kilometre or mile; off by default.
  • Goal: a target distance, from the ⋮ menu in Distance on foot.
  • Compass: the map can turn with the phone while you walk.

Corner by corner

Walk to a corner and stand still: the error circle shrinks as GPS fixes come in. Tap Place corner 1, then walk to the next. The average starts again as soon as you move. Remove last corner takes back a mistake.

Saving, and coming back

After Stop, save the measurement or discard it. The saved measurement shows its quality, its profiles and splits, and can be trimmed at the start or end.

If the phone closes the app during a measurement, nothing is lost: on the next opening, choose to resume, save or discard it. A saved walk or corner-by-corner measurement can also be resumed later from where it stopped.

Battery

Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery. If yours does, the app shows how to let it keep measuring with the screen off.
