How to measure a distance on a map
The length of a fence, a path or a pipe, measured on the satellite map from your phone — point by point, segment by segment.
Step by step
- Open Distance Measure Pro; in the panel at the bottom, tap Change and choose Drawn distance.
- Find the place with the search bar: a village, an address or coordinates.
- Put the crosshair on the start and tap +, then on each bend of the line.
- Each segment shows its length on the map, and the panel shows the total.
Useful details
- Tap the total to read it in metres, kilometres, feet, yards, miles or chains.
- The coordinates of the crosshair are shown live; tap a point to copy its coordinates.
- Drag a point to correct it; Undo goes back step by step.
- The Satellite view shows fences and paths; Map shows roads and names; Terrain shows contour lines.
Then go there
Follow this line, in the tools, guides you along the line on site, with the distance left — the way to stake out a fence drawn at home.
A distance as the crow flies, or on foot?
A drawn line measures the straight segments between your points. To measure the distance you actually walk or drive, choose Distance on foot and let the GPS count — see GPS distance measure.
